Final finish for the first half!

So, I've been cross stitching in the evenings. It allows me to decompress and I'm basically just finishing things my mil started or throwing in a Christmas motif here and there. So today was supposed to be a slow day but after shopping, lunching, and errand running, we pit stopped at home and did the laundry for the maternal unit and it was late afternoon before I could get crafty!  Tomorrow is more chores and hopefully sewing.

Here's the finish. My mil is sure eclectic in her choices! She says she doesn't even remember this one! It's designed to be a pillow front.

Wouldn't it be cute with like a tortoise and hare fabric on the back?

Can't you just picture her running her fingertips through the water in a kiddie pool while singing about Danny Zuko?
For this last week, I was hopelessly devoted to the craft project. I'll set it aside while I consider what to do with it from here.
What's next on the list?

Hotter than snot...or look what grows when it's hotter than snot

When you mostly just try to get to the car and get the ac going, you don't spend a lot of time looking around. But today I looked around and saw the sage bushes. Pretty purple flowers. When everyone is wilting in the heat, these bushes are at their most beautiful.

Would have been a better shot without the telephone pole but I'm not paid to stand in the blinding sun for a blog pic!

This was right outside the door to work...I only noticed yesterday because I'm very focused on entering the business!

We are family ...who likes our ac.

Fun art

Sometimes you have to take a pic of things that are fun. I've begun driving the maternal unit a little nuts because I insist on taking fun pictures. My loyal blog follower deserves the best!

Photo op stop downtown (just outside my local quilt shop!)

Right outside the ladies room at the hospital. Kind of cool!

And a fun song to end a fun post!

Another waiting room.

so today was Bluemans check up for his feet that suffered second degree burns. We also had X-rays done on his knee, prophylactic antibiotics to fetch and more wound care supplies for his feet. While there I crocheted until I ran out of yarn in the particular color I was using. I also saw a guy lose it due to a long wait. Well, you can't say the day wasn't filled with drama!

Lots and lots of people go through here. Missing feet and legs, braces, and other various feet issues. This clinic could double in size.

Working on the peacock colored prayer shawl. I have a cool plan for the design. Must remember to replace yarn for the next appt on Thursday. Maternal unit has dermatology visit.

Still singing with the 70's!

New craft

so I sorted through the massive pile of cross stitch box materials that were given to me by my mil. She had many new projects, many half started projects and a small boatload of supplies.
This was cute. A finished project by my mil. I could frame it and give it back, I guess!

I have about five colors of Aida cloth so I had a brilliant idea to make some Christmas ornaments for this year. So far, I like it!

Another song to car dance to....

It's done it's done it's done! Now what do I do?

the quilt is done. Hooray! The wonderful group at cutting edge quilt shop was helpful, efficient, and fast! We made the quilt design airplanes due to the fact the recipient works in the aerospace market.
I quite enjoyed finishing it off this afternoon. But now I sit and think....what now? Yes, I have other projects in process. Yes, I could do something with those. But I can't. :-)

I'm all caught up in the happy, sad, excited emotional finish.

I think I'll work on some small cross stitch designs for Christmas presents. It's the end of June already, right? I'm practically behind!
See the airplane?

Spotty backing. Fun.

Finished project!

Listening to the 70's in the car. Some songs you have to hum, sing or tap along with!
Head bob or car dance along to a good song today!

Drunk water

okay, so based on my love of the utterly silly, I had to post this.
I had gotten lunch and quickly brought it back to work. When I pulled the water out of my bag I realized I had a little problem.

One bottle is straight.

One is a little....drunk?

Only I could be given drunk water!

One plus one

every nice in awhile I need to take a food picture.  I just do. Sometimes to cause jealousy in others, sometimes just for a general good memory.

So one gorgeous grilled cheese with ham (maternal unit filching a fry)

Plus one yummy fried fish sandwich....

Equals the need for:
Revisiting the gym I haven't been inside for a year.
I had a slight fear that they'd point and laugh at me, the near stranger, but hey, this really is a judgement free zone!

Office visit.

It's been awhile since I got the pleasure of sitting in a doctors office waiting for the patient to finish.

I had my crafty project.

And a prime seat to see the room, the movie, and I was bathroom adjacent.  Life was good until the breather cam in and sat two seats away. Breathing, crunching his teeth and mumbling. I had it so good for awhile!

Weather news

So we got us some rain! And being the good little desert dweller that I am, I took pictures.
It's hard to get a good rain shot. I usually end up shooting the puddles for proof!

That was good for one day.

This is the forecast for this week. No more rain for awhile.
So...drink water. Lots of water!

quilty update.

The fabric was chosen, the batting was purchased and it's all in the hands of the amazing folks at the quilt store. I got to the store just as a class was ending, apparently as twenty or so women were in the store. Evidently the class was discussing black and white because a lot of the ladies were buying black and white and one red.  Someday I'm going to take a class. I read online of folks who do and it sounds like great fun. It just takes a bit for me to go alone.

Lots of things I'd do differently if I had it to do over but I'm still liking it.  The back fabric is at the top. A bit of speckles or spots.  I can't wait to see it together. I enjoy binding so I'm going to enjoy finishing this.

I had a bad end to the week and I'm struggling today.  I don't want to go back to work, I don't like who I've become lately because I am struggling with work drama.

Here's hoping next week is better.

Tickle my whimsy

so I find random things amusing. This is not news. While exiting the restaurant the other day I saw the following and it made me laugh.
It also made me realize I need to set up my shots better.

Smart car. Baby bear, let's say.

Then a fiat mini. Mama bear, if we continue in the same vein.
Who is next? My Kia Soul. In what world would a Kia be the papa bear? Maybe crazy aunt bear, with the small suv being papa bear?

Anywho, it made me laugh.
Enjoy your day and may you find your whimsy.

A gift, a burden or a new addiction

My MIL has been sorting through her house and discarding years of accumulation. The first came four years ago when I was gifted with 12 place set of China with soup tureen and teapot along with 36 piece crystal goblet set.

Last month it was five boxes of hymnals, one from 1896. The long and the short of it is we were tasked with sorting and finding a home for them. Blueman has done so, I think.

Yesterday I was the recipient of two 'gift' boxes. They were 'craft' items which I thought might be quilting supplies but no. It's cross stitch paraphernalia.  Like A LOT of it. Partial projects, pattern books....and more.
Various sizes and colors of Aida cloth

A pretty box of floss

Oh look a second pretty box of floss

And tucked into a corner... More floss

And tucked into another corner, what's this?  Yes, more floss!

Now... Do I allow dreams of MORE craft projects enter my head or do I re-gift? I'm thinking small Christmas ornaments...ohhhh noooo, floss shaped chains are taking hold......pretty....
Ha!

Quilt top done!

It went fast. It went well. I might actually be getting better at sewing!
From humble blocks...

Made from a jelly roll...

Half border to make the blocks dance...

And a pretty white  border to finish...

Gratuitous close up of border fabric.
Next comes shopping for backing fabric.
I have six weeks left to quilt and bind this little beauty.
Wish me luck!

Sunny days!

It's getting warmer and cars are getting hotter, so it's sun shield season!  Today I noted a Porsche in the parking lot. It had a Porsche sun shield!

This was a fun bright mix of fishes

My buggy with reversible turquoise / silver

NY giants fan!

Stay bright! Happy sunshine days to you!
